Winter magic away from the slopes - from tobogganing to romantic winter hikes

A ski vacation in Austria also offers you numerous sporting opportunities away from the slopes to let off steam or take things down a notch. Romantic winter hiking is particularly popular with couples. You can enjoy the mountain world of the Alps at a slower pace along wonderful panoramic trails. You can set off on your own or join a guided tour. You can also learn about the Alpine wildlife or geological features. Tobogganing offers the perfect leisure activity for families with children. The longest toboggan run in Styria, for example, is located on the Loser. You can take the lift up in comfort and speed back down the 9 km long Loser panoramic road. The toboggan run on the Spieljoch in the Zillertal starts at a proud height of 2,000 m and can be reached by gondola.

Who says that cross-country skiing is only possible in valleys and lowlands? Austria proves the opposite. One highlight for cross-country skiers, for example, is the high-altitude trail on the Bielerhöhe in the Montafon up to over 2,000 m above sea level. Sun worshippers will get their money's worth on the 220 km of groomed trails on the Sonnenplateau Ramsau am Dachstein. Even higher up on the Dachstein, the highest glacier trail in the world awaits you at 2,700 m. From ice skating and curling to idyllic carriage rides, there are many other outdoor activities waiting to be discovered during your ski vacation in Austria. You can also enjoy many activities on a ski vacation with your dog in Austria.

Culinary delights in the snow - culinary highlights in Austria

Exercise in the great outdoors makes you hungry, especially in winter temperatures. Quickly head to one of the numerous alpine huts and restaurants to fortify yourself with traditional dishes. In the Austrian Alps, the cuisine is rather hearty. Flour and egg dishes, bacon and meat, dumplings and potatoes (aka potatoes) as well as all kinds of soups and stews will quickly get you back on your feet. Each region has its own specialties to offer that go far beyond the usual staples of Wiener Schnitzel or Kaiserschmarrn.

This includes, for example, the Tiroler Gröstl. It consists of potatoes, pork, onions, spices such as marjoram and caraway and is served with a fried egg as a topping. The popular Kaspressknödel are used both as a main course and as a side dish for soups and stews. Many types of dumplings are filled with meat, cheese or fruit and come in countless varieties, from savory to sweet.

For those with a sweet tooth, Austrian cuisine offers a veritable paradise of delicacies, from Marillenknödel to Buchteln and Palatschinken . The icing on the cake is the typical Austrian hospitality with its "Schmäh".

Exclusive and cozy accommodation for your ski vacation in Austria

The right accommodation is crucial for enjoying your skiing vacation. Ideally, this should be located near or directly on the ski slopes so that you can spontaneously set off on a descent. Many ALPS RESORTS accommodations have these prime locations.

A wellness area is particularly pleasant on a winter vacation - not only to regenerate joints strained by sport, but also to warm up again after spending time outdoors. Whether indoor swimming pool or outdoor whirlpool with mountain views, whether Finnish sauna or infrared cabin, whether general wellness area or private spa in your own vacation home - at ALPS RESORTS you can relax completely.
